CARHARTT SPONSORED STUDIO
A sponsored studio with the brand Carhartt based on the main objective of rework focusing on sustainability. A team project between fashion design & color, material, and finish design master students. I was tasked with the goal to create 1-3 pieces using the returned Carhartt garments keeping the Carhartt demographic in mind, while at the same time coming up with creative fresh designs. This project was all about the term rework.
The use of your creative ability to manipulate an already existing item so you can make something new. Most items can be reworked into something different, which makes this term rework very broad.
For this project it was a very important factor of reworking an item. Each team received a selection of returned clothes, then make design a collection around those items. My focus was to bring new love back to these used pieces.
Process
From these garments I created my story. Throughout this journey repurposing was at the forefront. It was even more special to be working with Carhartt who holds that strong Detroit cultural history to it, with Detroit showcasing its talent to repurpose.
Using this machine called the FlashCut I was able to create this grid mesh like pattern. All I had to do was create a vector file through adobe illustrator, use a program on the machine that turned the file into a readable file so the machine can recognize it as a cuttable shape.
