VARIATIONS OF A LEAF

Niño con alcatraces, 1950, Diego Rivera

He’s Just a Boy

Menswear allows for an opportunity to express the male figure, so I thought it was fitting to understand the male figure in these Hispanic paintings. Diego Rivera heavily inspired my story. Pictures of a boy created the starting point to evoke a feeling of softness and innocence. While also tapping into the modern interpretation of a boy by adjusting the silhouttes to be slightly more feminine. Those fragile elements were inspired by the floral imagery within almost all of the Rivera paintings.

Zapatista’s Marching, 1931, by Jose Clemente Orozco was also another major inspiration. Who are these men marching? Where are they going? Why are they marching? What is their story? I began to ask myself these questions to understand the history of not only this one painting but many Mexican paintings from the past. When I looked at this painting I saw men that may not know the final desitination but still have the courage to continue with confidence and hope on their journey.

AI : COMPUTER GENERATED

Using AI to explore shape study was one goal I had in mind for my design process. I made my own image generator tool on Runway ML by using my process pictures, inspiration current looks, and color choices to create some very intriguing images. When it comes to AI, I am extremely excited to see where this could go and how I can continue to use it in my design process. In this process I treat artificial intelligence image generation as a new form of art, where the talent/skill comes from prompt writing and storybuilding.
